The specific design of the hot cell allows easy reloading of sealed sources in therapeutic heads, small NDT devices or larger irradiators such as Gammacell 220 and others.
The hot cell, manufactured by ŠKODA nuclear engineering is a unique device for multiple work with sealed sources. The construction of the hot cell allows to work with activity up to 3.7 PBq (equivalent to Co-60).
The hot cell consists of two parts; safe room and work area.
The safe area has a ground plan of 1,50×1,70 m and a height of 3,45 m. It is fitted with 1,10 m thick sandwich lead glass with a size of 0,80×0,60 m. Handling is provided by two manipulators produced by Wälischmiller.
The walls are shielded with 1,10 m thick barite concrete. There is a safe with 15 boxes for storing sealed sources, a periscope for fault verification and serial numbers, and device for measuring activity of radionuclides Co-60 and Cs-137.
The working area has a ground plan of 3,00 x1,70 m and a height of 3,45 m. It is equipped with two sandwich lead glasses with size of 0,80×0,60 m and 1.10 meter thick. Handling is provided by four manipulators produced by Wälischmiller. The walls are shielded with barite concrete of 1,10 m thickness.
For the handling with containers and equipment, the working chamber is equipped with a mobile workbench. The table consists of a lower platform where containers and equipment are placed and the upper platform with modular variable work boards. A portal crane with a load of 1000 kg is installed in the working area to handle the container plugs. The cell is further equipped with a helium test device and a panel with electrical and technical gas distribution.
The cutting, pressing and welding equipment can be placed into working area as necessary.
Safe room and work area are connected with a shielded air pressure lock 240×200 mm big.
